Do you run your business with your head or your heart??

So today I have a little challenge for you.

Do you run your business with your head or with your heart? Well, head. Okay. So how about when it comes to a core activity that is the absolute untouchable roots of your business and essentially that growing golden egg, is that led by common sense, or does emotion find its way into that space?

Product development is absolutely core to most sustainably growing businesses and perhaps yours too. Therefore you as a business owner may be a lot more involved than you have liked to admit, don’t get me wrong. It’s not necessarily a wrong move, but how much of the product development is actually strategic development and how much of what you get involved in is actually the fairly basic activities required to get that project done.

Being distracted with these basic activities can mean that you start running your business with your heart. I E you get too involved and therefore become emotionally attached to the product rather than focusing on what the product needs to achieve in your marketplace. Not a good thing. If you’re emotionally attached to a project that becomes commercially unviable, bad decisions.

Headaches failures, I guess we’ve all been there. So the solution? Run your business with your head distinguish and detach the product development strategy from the basic development activities and outsource the basic development activities to a company that you can rely on to deliver it quicker, more consistently.

And cost-effectively. Leave your internal team to nurture the real golden egg, the core product development strategy, and focus your guys on what you’re really good at and ship the rest out. Run your business with your head.
